Crime novel featuring a psychologist?

Hey I am looking for crime novels/police procedurals where a psychologist is called in to consult by the police or act as a profiler and plays a major part in the story, ideally the psychologist is the main protagonist. Even better if there is a series of novels like this.

I used to read a lot of crime novels a long time back and remember a couple like this, I think the author was Val McDermid? But I have been away from the crime genre for over a decade so I don't really know who are the best authors writing now.
