I read a lot but there was a book when I was in middle school that was just so amazingly good called Hoodoo by ronald L. smith does anyone know any similar books for a more mature audience?

It was like african Folklore, creepy, comforting vibe, Great read, i've read many books since that was years ago but no book had me so interested like that one, so any suggestions?
