    Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a book to gift to my grandpa for the holidays. He typically enjoys books to do with mechanical engineering type stuff, niche Australian history or, unfortunately, right wing politics. In the past we’ve given him ‘Heroes, Rebels and Radicals of Convict Australia’ by Jim Haynes and the Elon Musk biography. Fairly certain he liked the biography since he is pretty fixated by Musk.

We were thinking of getting him something to challenge his worldview without it being obvious. He only watches Sky News (the Australian one, ultra right wing) and seems to think that Peta Credlin is ‘balanced’. He refuses to listen to the rest of us when we challenge him on any of his questionable opinions.

Obviously I know one book won’t change much but we’d like to see if we could get him out of the echo chamber for a bit. The challenge will be to find a book that doesn’t make him think it’s ‘communist propaganda’.

If there isn’t any book like that then any interesting Australian history recommendations will be great too! Although, he will dislike anything that criticises rural white men.

The books can’t be, like, dense politic theory either. My grandpa is smart, especially with mechanical stuff but he did drop out of high school to start work when he was quite young so more digestible books would be appreciated. He’s also not a fan of fiction books.

Hopefully that makes sense! I’m gratefully for any recommendation!
