Anyway, I read this book back in high school around 2005-2006. The little details I remember:
- The book cover was rather simplistic, with red and white colour scheme
- It had a dark, post apocalyptic feel but with monarchy
- There was a bit where I think the prince had to go out and kill some sort of beast to prove his worth. He was in a type of dark wasteland and was petrified at the thought of having to kill this beast. I think he even pisses himself from fear. I'm not sure of this next plot point but I think he hides in a dead animal to survive.
- IIRC during the climax of the book, we find out the beast is some sort of hybrid of a long lost brother of said prince.
