I just played Citizen Sleeper, and really liked it, and would like books like it. So yes, suggest me books like Citizen Sleeper.

Either look up the game for details, or, roughly:

    – definitively far-future sci fi setting (not necessarily a space station, though that would be nice)

    – individuals being treated as disposable by companies/corporations

    – focus on characters, relationships (not romance, at least not exclusively) and/or day-to-day life in this setting (as opposed to galaxy-shaking events)

    – not relentlessly dark or nasty; I don't mind bad things happening, but I don't want edgy grimness all over everything. Wistfully sad would be great, though that might be a tall order

    – or just something close to all this, I know I won't get exactly what I want

    Thanks in advance

    1. I loved the vibes of that game. Maybe have a look at Becky Chambers’ novels? She writes very small, personal stories about people and friendships set in a very futuristic universe. They often have a bit of that sad, wistful feeling without being dark. Doesn’t include the corporate stuff though.

    2. * Slow River by Nicola Griffith. Not far future. Character driven, and all about people being treated as disposable by big corporations. There is romance as well as day to day activities. It has some dark content but I didn’t find it relentless.

      * Accelerando by Charles Stross. Far future, but imo the characters aren’t as good as in other books by this author. Definitely about individuals being treated as disposable.

      * Void Star by Zachary Mason. Very well written and character driven. Far future, but *not* in space.
