Used to read a lot. Now can't into anything like I use to.
Looking for something that's NOT over the top scifi, fantasy, warriors, good vs evil. I like keeping things at least somewhat in realm of reality but if the writing is strong enough I can see past outlandishness.
I love literary fiction but it can get boring especially if one chooses the wrong book or author. I like protagonists that have to question their beliefs or actions. Something that doesn't take itself too seriously. Honestly anything that's just really fun to read. Sorry if my descriptions aren't specific enough. Also my criteria isn't exclusive. I don't mind being flexible if I'm too stringent with my taste.
Things I like: almost anything Cormac McCarthy, light in August, flannery o Connor short stories, the stranger, inherent vice, parrot in the oven, cather in the rye, brief wondrous life of Oscar wao, Bhagavad gita, east of Eden, Nietzsche. Tarkovsky, Bong Joon-ho, Wong Kar Wai, Brighter Summer Day, Alfonso Cuaron, Death Note, Naruto.

The Rachel Incident?
It’s about a young adult woman living/working/studying in Ireland. She moves into her first apartment with a coworker and they become incredibly codependent. Rachel starts scheming to seduce her married college professor, but things don’t exactly go according to plan.
Rachel and her roommate, James, are likable and unlikable at the same time. There’s a ton of drama, and this was a quick read for me because I felt like things just kept happening, and I really liked the writing.
I’m not sure it matches your provided list that well, but for contemplative and light you might like Becky Chambers. A Psalm for the Wild Built & A Prayer for the Crown Shy. Honestly it might be good for me to reread those, I could use something like that myself.
I have just read “Orbital c bg Samantha Harvey. It was one of those books that didn’t appeal but you notice there’s a lot of people recommending it. It is really well written. Definitely the kind of thing you’re looking for.
