This is a common trope, but I'm a sucker for it. I love urban fantasy and paranormal romance stories where a person's world is turned upside down when they find out that magic and monsters are real, but hidden. Maybe they have some kindof magical potential themselves, maybe they're an ordinary mortal discovering an extraordinary world.
But I LOVE this, and love the scenes where their assumptions are thrown out the window. I'm okay with anything, MG, YA, NA, and A. Spice is fine, grimdark is fine but so is light and fluffy. No preference as to stakes, can be high stakes or low stakes.
1000 bonus points if it's queer, especially sapphic/lesbian. Vampires are beloved, too, especially vampire protagonists.
Minimal spoilers ("Character X finds out Magic is real" isn't really a spoiler in this context. Basically, blook burb level spoilers at the most.)
Examples I've read:
City of Bones and Clockwork Princess from the Shadowhunters world, by Cassandra Claire (YA)
Amari and the Night Brothers, by BB Alston (MG)
Legendborn by Tracey Deonn (YA)
Blood Rituals: A Cait Reagan Novel, by Aoibh Wood. (Adult)
Afterlove, by Tanya Byrne
