Henning Mankell’s Kurt Wallander series is a favorite of mine. I started with White Lioness personally but the first in the series is Faceless Killers. My favorite is The Fifth Woman. You don’t necessarily have to read them in order but you get more of his character development over time if you do.
Keigo Higashino has two different detective series – Detective Galileo and Detective Kaga. Both are excellent, very clever mysteries. Perhaps not quite as dark as some of your list but really really interesting and well written.
Look up the poet series by Michael Connolly. it’s a three part series.
The Sean Duffy series by Adrian McKinty.
How about *Ian Rankin’s* **Rebus** series? The books are set in Edinburgh and written in real time, so the changes in Scotland’s social and political landscape are reflected in the books as the series progresses – so much so that the city becomes just like a character in the stories, almost as much as Rebus himself.
