If you haven’t read Cuddy by Benjamin Myers, it’s brilliant, at least in my unqualified opinion. Follows the legacy of St Cuthbert through 1300 years while weaving in heartwrenching stories of ordinary people in the north of England. Skilfully tailors its prose, mixes in elements of poetry and drama.
Anyway, I finished it last night and I’m going through the post book depression where it feels like you’ve lost a friend. So- does anybody know a good book to follow this one?
It doesn’t have to be historical in setting, but I do love the quiet reverence of nature/simple existence that dominated Cuddy.
(Other books I’ve enjoyed recently include Colm Tóibín’s Enniscorthy novels, Matrix by Lauren Groff, The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry, Sassoon’s Sherston stuff.)
