I am at the point where I read mostly self-help and positive psychology books.
Self-help books are similar to each other in content while only having a catchy title.
What’s a great book that doesn’t fall in these categories? What genre should I read next to break free from this circle? How do you discover good books?

Just about anything you pick will be better than self-help books.
I think a good novel is the best self-help book because you learn something about yourself and the world on a deeper level than just through some axiome. if that is your thing look for novels that have characters or situations that somehow speak to you? one of the last books that made me think or feel about humans and their relations to themselves and others was “they are going to love you” by meg howry. maybe this is a book for you.
Do you want fiction or non-fiction?
Sticking to the self-help theme, I feel these are substantive and worth recommending:
The Art of Learning, by Josh Waitzkin (Adaptability)
Talk Like TED, by Carmine Gallo (Public speaking)
The Effective Executive, by Peter Drucker (Leadership)
The Ideal Team Player, by Patrick Lencioni (Desirable behaviors)
Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill (Staying focused)
