I’m doing 12 books, one for each month of the year as a Christmas gift for my mom. Some background on her: mid-fifties, single, works as a hospice provider, 2 adult children and one recently crossed fur baby, loves music/concerts, the beach and a good book, of course. Likes: romance, social justice, page turners, thrillers, books that make you feel something, non-fiction that’s useful or relevant to her. Dislikes: all fantasy, heavy science fiction, less interested in historical fiction & non-fiction but would read if it’s worthwhile. I haven’t yet matched them up with a month so this is just a list of the titles and alternates. I’d love any recommendations what month they should correspond to (I.e. will probably Seven Days in June for June or July since it seems like a good beach read) and I would love any feedback on the books that are included and any other recommendations you have. Thank you! Disclaimer: I, myself am not a reader so I’ve just been doing research in this sub, on tik tok and awards lists.

    2. The Curated Closet - Anuschka Rees

She probably wouldn’t like The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store that much. It has a Very Specific Setting and a lot of characters, which I find is what people tend to not like about a lot of sci-fi and fantasy and historical fiction. I would swap that for Remarkably Bright Creatures.
