My mother, with whom I have a difficult relationship, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. We’re both young enough for this to be an experience that none of my peers know what to do with, and I am young enough that I still have all my grandparents, so I am looking for context outside of my own life.
I really liked Crying in H Mart because it acknowledged the complexities of difficult relationships and of being a difficult person yourself in that dynamic. There were no saints in that story and I respected it. I’d love other books, fiction or nonfiction, in which the protagonist processes loosing a difficult parent.
