I left my previous job a month ago, but plans after that went awry. I'm feeling stuck and figured getting back into reading might be helpful. My parents are big self-help nerds, but after digging through the self-help books we have here at home, I feel the whole self-help genre doesn't connect with me.

I'm hoping to find any works that resonate with the situation. One of my friends suggested I start with Norwegian Wood by Murakami, so I'll pick that up first. As a teen, I read a lot of novels and loved fantasy.

    1. It’s short and sweet, but “A Psalm for the Wild-built” might hit right for you. The MC is feeling pretty aimless and conflicted. It’s a wonderful little sci-fi novella.

“Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop” could also be a good fit, although it’s not fantasy or sci-fi. But it’s gentle and follows a loose cast of characters all feeling stuck or directionless in some way. One of my favorite things I’ve read this year.

    2. If you interest is fantasy you should just read fantasy books. Self-help books can be repetitive but very useful. I read a lot because when I was in late 20s I felt stuck too. My advice do what you really enjoy. Learn the things you enjoy doing. Don’t just do something to do it because later you going to feel like you wasted your time. In this moment in your life progress. Continue to progress in life you seem like technology would be an interest for you since you like fantasy. Maybe you tap into more of your creative side.

I am not a non-fiction person. Have never been but this year I deepdived into 2 amazing books.

      The Mountain is You
      &
      The Pivot year

Both by the same author- Brianna Wiest. You might have encountered some quotes on social media by the author and that is what prompted me to dig in these writings.

Again want to say- never have I liked or willingly bought non-fiction books.

But these books have changed my life. The amount of notes, comments, bookmarking I have done. It’s unreal.

The Pivot year book also has acted as a year-long guide for me. No matter what the day was- if I had a question in my mind- I just happened upon the exact piece of writing I needed to hear that day.
