Basically think of something like the video game "Dishonored", but without the whole void powers thing…..or maybe just very toned down versions of magic/ the supernatural.
Preferably no YA. I would prefer the characters to be at least 20 years old. I tried reading "The Way Of Shadows", and though I admittedly didn't finish the book, I found it very hard to connect or relate to Azoth because he was a literal kid.
I would really like if the book had compelling writing. Character work is most important to me, but worldbuilding is important as well. Im fine with romances as long as they are not overdone or cliche.
Lastly, I would kinda prefer if the book didn't contain a ton of in-world jargon/cities/titles/etc right out of the gate that kind of overwhelms you because you don't know what any of it means (yet).
Edit: Preferably something that doesn't take place in modern day. I prefer my Assassins to be of the shadowy type with a cloak/dagger/sword/etc in a gritty world.
