I used to be an avid reader, specifically thriller books. After Gone Girl (I know, I'm a cliché), I read one domestic thriller book after another chasing that Gone Girl high. And although the reviews all said something to the effect of 'if you liked Gone Girl, you'll love….' it never delivered for me. I've read Girl on the Train, Woman in the Window, The Silent Patient, The Wife Between Us, Alice Feeney books, and more. Many are sitting in my Kindle Library as DNF. Freida McFadden who frequently gets recommended was unreadable for me.

I remember being absolutely riveted while reading GG so that's where my bar was set.

Other books that I was engrossed by were Think of A Number by John Verdon (I read the next book in the series and thought it was terrible), 11/22/63 by Stephen King, and Da Vinci Code (so long ago!).

Currently reading God of the Woods by Liz Moore. I'm about 50% through. I'll finish it, but I don't get the rave reviews. Good writing, but slow, sometimes boring, and so many time shifts and characters to track.

I'm well aware it could be me, but I still have hope there's a book/author out there that is truly unputtdownable! I'm going on vacation next week and would love to be engrossed in a book!

TLDR; I used to be an avid reader, loved Gone Girl, read many thriller-type books after and can't get into most of them. Any suggestions for an unputtdownable book for my vacation next week?

Do you want only thriller recs or all genre recs?

If you’re looking for something fast paced but emotional, read A thousand splendid suns or The kite runner, both by Khaled Hosseini.

If you’re looking for a dark, dystopian, contemporary book, check out ‘I who have never known men’. It’s bout a group of women being jailed underground and the MC doesn’t remember her life before she arrived in those cells, and hence the title. Easiest 5 stars I’ve read this year!

The Poet by Michael Connelly. I could put it down, problem was I couldn’t resist picking it up again. It has two sequels.

Good news: If you like Connelly’s style, you’ll have a lot of books to read since he is currently on his fourth series.
