My 90yr old grandmother likes a very specific genre of early frontier romances books (think Little Women) but she doesn’t like them if they’re ‘spicy’ which I take to mean explicit. I want to get her a few for Christmas but I don’t know anything about this genre. Can anyone please recommend some non-spicy’ books in that genre?

Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freedman (this was too chaste for me but your grandma might like it)
Hannah Fowler by Janice Holt Giles
Tisha: The Wonderful True Love Story of a Young Teacher in the Alaskan Wilderness by Robert Specht
(Not sure how popular these were when they were released or if she would have read them. I think Hannah Fowler was pretty obscure but Mrs. Mike might have been more popular)
Kent Haruf – Our Souls at Night
This may be worth checking out, I liked it quite a lot.
It’s about an old man and woman who are both widowed and seek companionship together.
