Babel by R.F. Kuang definitely did that for me. The first-half is more slow-paced and letting you discover how the world works, but let’s say that once the machine starts, it doesn’t stop!

There are a few short stories in a book called Melancholy by Danny Mouso that have pretty good plot twists, one of those stories is Another Life and We Met on the Mountain. It is currently free on Amazon (ebook edition) It’s a fun read that will lead you to question at times.

The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks

My Summer Friend by Ophelia Rue. Even knowing there’s a twist won’t help you see it coming.
