I like to give my parents a book each for Christmas. I already found one for my day (The Wager) but am struggling with my mom, and would appreciate suggestions. She has recently enjoyed things like the Joy Luck Club, All the Light We Cannot See, and Julia Child's memoir (My Life in France). Generally female-oriented stories I would say, mother-daughter plots always good, some historical fiction.
She doesn't enjoy too much violence, or anything centered on super heavy topics like sexual assault, domestic violence, etc.
One extra challenge is she also has MS, which impacts her cognitive abilities a bit. She is frustrated trying to follow stories with too many characters that it jumps between, too many timelines, lots of foreign words or names etc (she tries to take notes to keep characters and events straight, but I know it ruins the experience for her.)
Also, of course it needs to be easily found in a typical bookstore, because at this point I don't have time to be ordering anything online.
Thanks – appreciate any suggestions!
