I’ve gone through so many different genres of Man vs different things- government, themself, freaky aliens and monsters, so on. But I have a hard time finding a good man vs nature book! I read Hatchet about a million years ago in middle school and while I’ve forgotten most of it to time, I remember thinking about the idea of a character stuck in nature and having to survive. I always thought it was such a fascinating topic to read. If anyone has any recs of man vs nature, PLEASE let me know!! Thank u all in advance ❤️

    1. The Martian is a sci-fi take on this- his obstacles are natural, even though he has an entire space station full of resources.

My Side of the Mountain and the sequels are aimed at middle school readers, but the MC has a falcon and that’s awesome. Also, the author’s brothers founded the falconry movement in the U.S. so she knows her stuff.

Lots of history books have an element of this- explorers discovering Antarctica, Lewis and Clark, Australia’s outback…

What about man versus nature on another planet? Colonists settle another world where everything seems pretty nice, but it turns out evolution has cooked up an awful surprise for them there. If you like it, there’s also a sequel. The Legacy of Heorot by Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, and Steven Barnes.
