Hi! I'm looking for stories about lonely, quiet, stoic types meeting and slowly warming up to other people. Can be depressing, bittersweet, or have a cheesy happy ending as long as it's about loneliness, isolation and an evolving platonic or romantic relationship. Any length, but I would prefer if it's not YA. Thanks!

Anne Maddison’s Secret Admirer by Barbara Joyce Parker looks to hit many of those marks. A single woman private eye in her late 50s is on the verge of early retirement, and wondering what it’ll be like without any close relationships to speak of. Plus, she’s a bit anti-men, due to bad past experiences and a long ago divorce. Then she unexpectedly runs into a guy who’s been carrying a torch for her for 40 years, and circumstances force them to work together. She’s uncomfortable with his love for her, and definitely doesn’t want it, but does her best to deal with it. It has a bittersweet ending. Sci fi.
