Fiction books with motivated main characters

I'm looking for books where the main character is a go-getter and does lots of reading and work instead.

Ideally one of these: Fiction, Fantasy, Romance, Historical-Fiction

I enjoyed Little Women, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Boston Girl, Glass Castle, and Jane Eyre – all books fit my criteria, though not directly.

Please help me find some good books to read!
