I live in a small rural town in the woods but our state is pretty blue (if that matters). I have never been to a book club nor have I ever created one. Well I'm creating one now lol. I have taken it upon myself to pick the first book for every one to read and I'm nervous. I personally like really traumatic books that I don't know would be a good fit as the first book. I want to keep these ladies coming back to the book club not scare them away but I also want it to be a good book which will make them want to come back for more. I don't know any of these women I started the group online. Personally I'm an introvert and I suck at socializing so really I am out of my mind taking this on. Anyways any suggestions? I'd guess we are all in our 30s and we are all mothers but that's all I know.

Also any tips on the best way to run a book club are welcome it's only about 10 people.

A beautifully written story set in rural Appalachia, this book weaves themes of environmentalism, rural life, and societal change. It offers an engaging narrative that reflects the complexities of living in a rural community, with a strong female protagonist that mothers in their 30s might find relatable. https://amzn.to/3ZHp1Uo

Both books are reflective of rural life and the challenges/opportunities it presents while being accessible and engaging for a group of strangers.

I was in a similar book club! One book that sticks out to me that we read was “The Book of Lost Names” by Kristin Harmel. I was hesitant because of the cover (it’s cheesy), but it was really good! Historical fiction that takes place in WWII. Has a little romance, a little suspense, a little trauma.
