I often suggest Passing by Nella Larsen-a short engrossing book about two friends in 1920’s Harlem. Tragic and well-written!

    2. When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi is short and moving. Not sure if you want to read about someone else’s experience in med school/ becoming a neurosurgeon, but if you do, it’s a powerful short read.

    3. Something by Malcolm Gladwell- his style is nonfiction pop psychology, vis a series of anecdotes. Very readable, and even if you don’t finish it each chapter is relatively self contained. I liked Outliers.

The Hobbit- fantasy in the form of a bedtime story. Each chapter has its own action and conclusion, all leading up to the main action. It’s Tolkien, but it’s not inaccessible.

Solipsist by Henry Rollins. It’s not too long if you tend to read in big chunks and it’s not a linear story it’s mini stories and thoughts so you can pick it up and read it whenever.

    5. I shared this on here once before, but when I’m in this particular time crunch, I go to Goodreads and sort my Want to Read list by page number, shortest to longest. It has worked to get me to my goal before! Also, here are a couple super short books I read this year and would recommend:

The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
