Right as the title says, I am looking for something that would, through fiction, help me figure out how to survive after a world-ending or maybe just society ending event.
I live in scandinavia, and fresh water bodies are like 20-30 kms away, not exacly a walk or bicycle ride away.
So im trying to figure out how I would survive in a world like that, not seriously but would be cool to read some fiction set in that type of setting.
Any ideas?
of books I've already read, or discarded, or is on my to-read list.
* "Station Eleven" by Emily St. John Mandel – it didnt grip me, theres nothing in it that appeals to me. Too much of a reneseance faire type thing for me.
* The Stand, not read yet, but it is on there.
* World War Z, currently listning to it.
* The Road, bleak boring book, yes its horrific, and yada-yada, it was also boring.
* Wool, i couldnt get through the first book, got to chapter 28-30 and just stopped.
Other than that, i've not ready too much in this setting.

{{Earth Abides by George R Stewart}}
One I thought was shockingly useful was {{How to Invent Everything: A Survival Guide for the Stranded Time Traveler by Ryan North}}. I even bought it for my bff because we both dig very lighthearted prepping.
While it purports to be a book about how to handle yourself as a time-traveler, it’s actually a step-by-step guide for a post-apocalyptic scenario : from how to catch wild yeast to make bread or beer to where to find and collect salt.
Parable of the sower by Octavia Butler
The main character is a woman and the book is absolutely brutal. Starts off in Los Angeles. There is also a second book . I forgot what it’s called but it’s also pretty Good. Once you get past the character building hold on to your pants lol.
ETA: it’s not really a how to survive but it seems pretty realistic and gives you an idea of possible hardships and things that could happen in the future. Scenarios prepare for.
