I recently started collecting books for an Around the World Challenge; to read one book from each country in the world. I posted here awhile back for suggestions for Afghanistan and ultimately selected 'The Broken Circle' by Enjeela Ahmadi-Miller. I haven't read it yet but I like to have a pile of books waiting for me.

I am looking for a story that primarily takes place in Albania and is written by an Albanian. It can be either fiction or non-fiction but a story that represents an honest perspective of what life in Albania is like during any time-period. While it is impossible to have a depth of understanding about any country through one book, I hope that my worldview will be slightly expanded with each book.

What book do you suggest that best represents Albania?

    1. It’s been many years but I read Ismail Kadare’s ‘The General of the Dead Army’ and quite enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.

It takes place in 1960’s Albania although some of the more important characters are Italian and German.
