Hi everyone!
I'm looking for recommendations on novels that capture the essence of Japanese culture. I recently read "South of the Border, West of the Sun" by Haruki Murakami and I really liked the style and atmosphere it conveys. I'm looking for something similar to get closer to Japanese culture.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance and happy new year!

Here are some great novels that beautifully capture the essence of Japanese culture, similar to South of the Border:
1. [“Kokoro” by Natsume Sōseki](https://amzn.to/41XVSah)
• A classic novel that delves deeply into the shifting values of Japan during the Meiji era. It’s introspective and beautifully explores themes of loneliness, friendship, and cultural change.
2. [“The Housekeeper and the Professor” by Yoko Ogawa](https://amzn.to/3DBQ5xj)
• A tender story about the relationship between a housekeeper, her son, and a brilliant but memory-impaired mathematician. It offers a heartfelt glimpse into Japanese values, relationships, and everyday life.
3. [“Norwegian Wood” by Haruki Murakami](https://amzn.to/4iUQ2fX)
• If you enjoyed South of the Border, West of the Sun, this Murakami novel might also appeal to you. It’s an intimate exploration of love, loss, and coming-of-age, steeped in Japanese settings and culture.
