Erm can I just say that throughout the whole first two parts I was screaming in my head๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ "YOU DO NOT!! LET THE INSANEST OF WOMEN!! WITH THE MIGHTIEST PACKAGE OF RED FLAGS!! JUST CASUALLY INTO YOUR HOME & LIFE!!!" ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

With that said, I do not feel like this was well written sadly for a book in this genre.. I think Ive been reading too many thriller/suspense novels over the years but idk.. I feel like a lot of it was kind of expected, ESPECIALLY with that title?? Cmon.Y does it have little to no filler chapters that just help to gauge the actual characters, every chapter has smthn to do withthe narrative the author wants to build in the head of the reader and it does not leave spaceee. The substance in this book was NOT substancing.

I think I'd give it a solid 5/10. If you LOVED this book, you should go outside, and touch some books maybe?

Anywho, yall have any actually good (clean) suspense/thriller book recs, ty!!

    1. I really enjoyed your review. I can feel your intense dislike in every sentence. The substance in this book was not substancing – perfect summation.

    2. I have liked some Lisa Jewell books but I will always pick Julia Heaberlin first, especially Black Eyed Susans

    3. I like to come away with some sort of revelation from a novel when I finish it. With thisโ€ฆ I really had nothing. Donโ€™t trust strangers? Idk. All I know is that husband got screwed

    4. This book really bothered me. I kept waiting for a twist and nope, she was just a terrible person? And the man nearly 30 years her senior who dated her when she was 15 was ok because he was a good father? The whole thing felt like a massive waste of time.

    5. โ€œIf you LOVED this book, you should go outside, and touch some books maybe?โ€

Or maybe we shouldnโ€™t shame people for liking books that you didnโ€™t like? ๐Ÿ™„

I usually enjoy Jewell for fun whodunnit reads, but this along with โ€œGirls in the Gardenโ€ were misfires for me with their lukewarm conclusions.

I didnโ€™t love this book either, but saying *If you LOVED this book, you should go outside, and touch some books maybe* is not cool. People can like what they like and maybe thatโ€™s different from what you like, and thatโ€™s fine.

With that being said, I really liked the premise and storytelling style of this book (the summarized clips from the Netflix series I thought was quite unique) but the plot and resolution fell flat for me. I did not like that the author glazed over the fact that the husband was a groomer, because she as a teenager was persistent and โ€œpursued himโ€? Still gross. And I hated that >!Alixโ€™s husband died for essentially no reason.!<

    8. Substancing is not a word. Neither is Y, smthn or spaceeeee. Ripping on this book not being well written may be the pot calling the kettle, hmm?

OP, try The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins, and also the other two by the same author, Into The Water and A Slow Fire Burning. I really enjoyed them! ๐Ÿ™‚

    9. I mean not liking a book is fine. But telling people who loved this to go outside and touch some books? People like different things. Your take on a book isnโ€™t the โ€œcorrectโ€ take.

ah the classic r/books air of superiority

I give this book a solid 10. I loved it, and guess whatโ€ฆ. I do live in reality and do go outside. That was so rude

    12. I was caught off guard by how many people took offence to your comment โ€œgo outside and touch some booksโ€ .. Is it really that offensive?

I thought this book was interesting. It kept my attention. As soon as they mentioned the husband groomed Josie I rolled my eyes. I knew that based on the title of the book, it was going to be spun that 16 year old Josie โ€œmanipulatedโ€ Walter into being with her. A grown man sleeping with a 16 year old isnโ€™t being manipulated. He just lucked out that she was into it. What a crazy thing to write, like Walter was innocent. Heโ€™s still a fucking pedo lol??? Wild.
