I’m so sick of the clumsy ‘adorkable’ characters who are constantly embarrassing themselves. Doing things like not realising they’re talking to the person they’re talking bad about or doing the ‘oh I said that out loud’ thing. I don’t find embarrassment funny or endearing, I find it incredibly cringeworthy.
I’m a romantic and I love a good love story but I feel like I just keep finding romances where the only plot is the main character embarrassing themselves.
I don’t care what genre. I just want something fun and romantic where the female lead isn’t an idiot. I’d prefer adult characters and not YA. I’m also not hugely into smut but I’ll happily skip over it if there not many scenes.

The fourth wing. Female lead is incredibly intelligent thrown into a challenging situations and uses her brains a lot. Don’t want to give anything away.
T. Kingfisher’s Saint of Steel series has FMCs who are all Very Practical and Competent People. (The fourth one is a M/M pairing)
The Briar Club. It has many romantic plot lines and each one follows a strong female character with their own personality. It’s a historical fiction + murder mystery and cute/funny
I Hope This Finds You Well. The main character embarrasses herself but not in an adorkable way, in a “everyone in the office thinks she’s psychotic” way. It’s funny and sad but happy
The Fountains of Silence. A will-they, won’t-they historical fiction. It’s only one of the plot lines but it’s the biggest plot line
