For me the best book was 'Way of Kings' by Brandon Sanderson and the worst was a german book called 'Daheim' (really the worst book I've ever read) by Judith Hermann. What were yours?

Best book(s):mushoku tensei light novel series

Worst: idek probably “my instant death ability is so overpowered no one in this other world stands a chance against me” volume 1

Best was The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey. Worst was Brasyl by Ian MacDonald (not horrible, but long and kinda meh for me)

    3. Ones I rated the highest: Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See and Five Little Indians by Michelle Good. These were both amazingly written, engaging, and educational (both are historical fiction).

One I didn’t score quite as high but just absolutely loved (I consider my favorite from 2024): Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune.

Least Favorite: Homestead by Melinda Moustakis, which is about a couple homesteading in Alaska before Alaska was made an official state of the USA. It isn’t bad, just seemed to drag on a bit, in my opinion.

    4. Best: North Woods by Daniel Mason

Worst: Bummer Camp (a free one from Kindle unlimited)

    5. Two best because I keep flipping back and forth: 11/22/63 & Fantasticland

      Worst: Whalefall

    6. These are incomparable genres, but they’re both books

Best? Maybe? _The Secret Life of Groceries_ has a great balance of skill of writing and detail, including human stories as well as “explainers,” whereas the most comically undeveloped book perhaps of my entire life was

_The Five AM Club_, which I received for free and still returned

Best book: “Kairos” by Jenny Erpenbeck

Worst book: “the Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern.

    8. Best was either The Daughter’s War by Christopher Buehlman or Viriconium by M John Harrison, both solid 10s

Worst was Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman. The most heavy handed clumsy pointless thing I’ve read in ages, with the absolute lamest plot twist I’ve probably ever read.

Best : the girl in glass case by Devasish sardana (written very well)

Worst : Bad liars by Vikrant khanna (the way crime was committed was good but it very slow paced)

How was Brandon Sanderson ‘s books???

Best book: The Known World by Edward P. Jones (but honorable mention to Katherine Arden’s Winternight trilogy.)

Worst book: Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon. Good God was that awful. Worst thing I’ve ever read.

Best: ‘North Woods’ by Daniel Mason

Worst: ‘Iron Flame’ by Rebecca Yarros. I mildly enjoyed the first book in the series but couldn’t even finish this sequel.

Best: The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese

Worst: The Teacher by Freida McFadden

      Best (not finished yet, but started in 2024): Playground by Richard Powers;
Worst: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

    14. The best was The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver. The worst was a self-published book by a guy in my town. It was terrible. He’s a nice guy but needs to practice his trade more.

I re-read Middlemarch by George Elliott which is still my favourite book of all time. For a first time read I also loved In Ascension by Martin McInnes

Worst book was The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz which was just insanely rubbish. The *crazy* plot that no one ever saw coming was laughable. I’m just astounded at how bad that book was.
