African & Central American Book Recommendations Needed

I am on a lifelong goal of reading a book from every country in the world, but I'm noticing that I'm really falling behind in Africa and Central America. I could really use some recommendations for these regions.

I prioritize reading from authors local to that area that have been translated into English. This means that the book does not have to be set in that country to count for it.

I prefer fiction, especially historical fiction or magical realism, but am open to other genres.
