Looking for Victorian and even older British Literature.

Any page turners come to mind?
Bonus points if we don’t know what they mean sometimes in passages anymore.

I know it’s a long shot but I enjoy the most thought provoking books that might be hard to understand. Really leaves you dwelling on what they meant…
Not flowery prose, and not fictional accounts unless they are actually a really impressive story.
