I hope this isn’t breaking any rules, apologies if it is!
So recently, some colleagues and I (we work in libraries) did some work about our favourite libraries in films and tv and it got me thinking that it might be fun to discuss that a bit here!
So I’d love to know:
-What libraries do you love from films and tv?
-What do you like about them? Have they inspired you at all?
-Have you done much research into the background and design of those libraries? (I ask this one because I found this part really interesting when I was researching my chosen library!)
I’d love to hear everybody’s thoughts!

I have fond memories of Conan the librarian from UHF, cant say it inspired me though.
The library is a central part of the plot of The Name of the Rose – it’s spooky and filled with all sorts of forbidden knowledge and myth in an age when science and understanding were being left in the past. The book has a long and detailed description of its layout and the reasons behind its categorisation.
I also love the library scene in Something Wicked This Way Comes – a place of knowledge against darkness and safety – which is what all libraries should be. It is also the setting for superb acting between the wonderful Jonathan Pryce and Jason Robards.
