I like fantasy, but I find that I tend more towards books that consider how the characters manage their day to day life on top of all the adventure and chaos. I also really aporeciate when the two tie into each other, like when the protagonists
discovers a key element of the antagonist's plot while on a hunting trip, for example.
I've read through all of Janet Edwards' portal future books and really like her writing style. Mercedes Lackey is also a good example on the fantasy side. I've read books 1 and 2 of Lilith's Brood by Octavia Butler but couldn't get past the aggressive disgust of the alien species (and how the relationship style was "progressive" and still incredibly heterosexual).
