Looking for book trilogy that I read as a teenager

I read a book trilogy when I was younger and can't remember the names even though I absolutely love them and kinda want to do a reread. All of the book titles were one word. I think the book cover all had a gray background and one thing on them, the first book was red, the second was blue and the third was gold I think. They were about the US in the far future after the ice caps melted and the US had been split into two countries the western and easterm sides. The books swaps between two characters male and female both are super smart. The first book starts on the western side the government makes everyone take a test to see where you are placed for your job. The male character "failed" the test so the government disposed of him but he ended up surviving and started being on the run and the female character was the "only person" to score a perfect score and is tasked with hunting the male character down. As the book progresses you find out the government is experimenting on its residence and both of them find out and try to bring out the truth and end up sneaking over to the eastern side of the us that is more technology advanced. Both countries are at war. Does anyone have an idea of the book names, it would be greatly appreciated
