Jazz from this era really keeps my head together through long Minnesota winters. There's just something enchanting about listening to a muted trumpet when you're walking/driving through snow. I've read bios on Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Django Reinhardt, but otherwise haven't delved too deep. Let me know of any memoirs, histories of scenes/eras, or bios you loved. I'm especially curious about Sun Ra and Chet Baker.

I’d recommend A Dangerous Rhythm by TJ English. It’s about the relationship between the mob and jazz musicians. Very interesting read.
