What specifics did you like about them? Just any good kids-YA book range? Magical worlds? Specifically boy MC’s? A series rather than stand alone? A cast of friends they gather in their journey?

If you want something more adult than young adult, The Magicians series by Lev Grossman is about students at a wizarding schools but subverts the genre a bit

The Magic Thief is one that comes to mind. Orphan thief- discovers powers, taken in by master. Does go to school, although not as strong of a focal point as Hogwarts. Really great audiobook I remember.
The Sisters Grimm is another series I’d recommend. The magic isn’t as inherent to the MCs the same way as Harry and Percy’s is, but it is two orphan girls coming into a magical world and discovering they aren’t normal. Great series.
Eragon/The Inheritance series is another series involving discovering of powers. But it does not have the boarding school/summer camp setting. It is adventurous though.
The Goose Girl series by Shannon Hale also involves discovering abnormal abilities/powers. But also doesn’t follow the school/summercamp setting. Great friendship cast made along the way though.
Have you tried Rick Riordan’s Egyptian based series, The Red Pyramid. I remember quite enjoying that one as well.
