I am reading a lot at the moment but finding that most of the books have characters with a very bleak outlook who have sort of given up on life*. I love books about relationships, which explore the human condition and character studies, but I don’t want them to be completely depressing lol.

Does anybody have recommendations for some fiction books with some positive outlook? It doesn’t have to have a happy ending or sugarcoat things, but I want there to be at least some display of hope or happiness. I really liked Station Eleven, and A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. I don’t mind the genre, it’s more about the writing and the characters.

*The 3 recent books I’ve read:
    • What We Talk About When We Talk About Love – Raymond Carver (did not enjoy this at all)
    • Antarctica – Claire Keegan
    • Wednesday’s Child – Yiyun Li (my current read, which is good, but all the characters are very defeatist and seem to hate people and the world)

    1. Check out Kevin Wilson’s novels. They are engaging, charming, and all a little offbeat. Very memorable characters. Start with Nothing to See Here.
