    1. It depends why I DNF’d. Sometimes I DNF because the book is just bad in which case I wouldn’t. Sometimes I DNF because I’ve started a particularly dark book and need to read something more light-hearted at that moment in my life, in which case I would give the book another go in the future.

Yeah maybe one day I’ll try the LoTR series again. It was rough.. but I think i’ll try again at some point.

I dropped Grapes of Wrath for no good reason when I was more than half way through- I’ll try to pick that up again.

I’ll probably try Moby Dick again at some point, even though I’ve tried it twice.

I had started Pet Sematary on December 3rd of 2022 and my Mother passed away two days later. Never finished. May try and go back one day..

    4. Yes, I have done this. I started a book series and was annoyed because I felt the writing was poor. A couple years later, I revisited the book and found myself less irritated by the writing style and pleasantly surprised by the story. I’m now reading the third book in the series.

I did that six times with *The Making of the Atomic Bomb* by Richard Rhodes. It’s a massive book. But I did finally get through it and finish it.

    6. All the time, because I DNF with impunity for reasons such as “not feeling it” and “forgot I had that book checked out” and “done with my historical romance binge for now” and whatever else. Books don’t require you finish them, you know?

So since my DNF stakes are very, very, very low, picking something back up again is also whim based – I’ve very much enjoyed some books that previously weren’t vibing.

    7. I stopped reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah several years ago. Perhaps because I have never experienced dysfunction or violence in my family life, I just could not connect. I still have the book but have added so many books to my pile since then that I doubt I will return to it.

    8. I have done this for:

      * The Hobbit. I was not the most attentive reader as a child and found it too boring. I tried reading it later in life and thought it was a pleasant read.

      * The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. This book has a bit of a boring start, where even the protagonist describes being bored at an official ceremony. But later on I tried again and this became one of my favourite books ever.

I have not gone back to read most of the books I have abandoned, because I read enough of them to think that I just don’t feel the need to read them to the end.
