Hey folks! I’m looking for recommendations for my dad, who is a big sci-fi/fantasy guy but basically only reads nonfiction these days because he doesn’t know where to start with new sci-fi/fantasy. He’s read most of the classics; his favorites are The Lord of the Rings, Dune, Isaac Asimov, and the Nero Wolfe books (as a kid haha but he still likes to reread them). He also liked the Earthsea series. He wants to read something fun / not too dark but still thoughtful. I think a series would be good as he likes to get really into things but stand alone books are good too! Classics and newer suggestions all welcome. Thanks guys!

Dalemark by Diana Wynne Jones
Discworld by Terry Pratchett (maybe start with Night Watch books)
Scalzi – Red Shirts, Old Man’s War
Maybe Fuzzy Sapiens by H. Beam Piper
The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey
Mistborn
Red rising
For the Dune and Isaac Asimov fan, check out Ann Leckie’s Imperial Radch series. Starts with Ancillary Justice. It’s an incredible newer sci fi story with complex, interesting characters.
