My nephew’s birthday is coming up, and since we just got through the holidays, I’m thinking cash and a cool book. He’ll be 5 and has some neurodiversity. His favorite thing in the world is garage doors, and pretty much anything mechanical in that way. Is there a cool kids book with visuals about how that kind of thing works? Thanks and happy new year!!

The Way Things Work by David Macauley (make sure the newer version).
Eyewitness Books
Klutz books
Usbourne books’ See Inside How Things work is pretty cool – lots of flaps. Goes into simple machines and has lots of examples. I don’t think there are garage doors but it does have escalators, plumbing and musical instruments.
There is also a collection of “see inside” books which includes the solar system and a few others that’s quite good value.
