Hi fellow book worms! To date, I mostly read chic lit, contemporary and historical romance – the sort of book where you know the ending by chapter 3. And I love them because I just switch off and dive in.

Recently, I’ve had a desire for more world building and fantasy books. Just to change it up a bit. New year, new me perhaps 😂

The problem is, I struggle with super surreal fantasy. I need books where I can visualise what I am reading.

Can anyone suggest a “light” fantasy or something that will ease me in to the genre so I can dip my toe in? Thank yoooou ❤️

Uprooted by Naomi Novik sounds like an appropriate starting point. Then if you like it you can delve into her other retellings.

For the Wolf by Hannah F Whitten

    2. T. Kingfisher’s “The Saint of Steel” series would be a fantastic fit for you! Equal parts romance and super fun fantasy adventure stories with great world building. Whenever I see a new one is released I instantly buy it. Paladin’s Grace is the first book in the series.

I don’t have a lot of specific suggestions since the genre isn’t my thing, but a keyword that might help you is “romantasy”! A lot of the books are what you’re describing in terms of “turn your brain off because you know what’s gonna happen by chapter 3”, except with a little bit more going on in the background in terms of worldbuilding. It’s really popular on tiktok and Instagram if you do some poking around.

Only romantasy book I’ve read was Fourth Wing. Wasn’t my thing but people seem to really enjoy it. Might be your cup of tea!
