I'm a mood reader and January is normally the month where I feel most nostalgic and in need of a good cry. But I don't want to cry about pets dying (I will never read a book where a dog dies, I'm sorry) or full on sob just because everything's so sad and there's absolutely no hope at all. I want a book I can finish, set down, and be unable to talk or form any thoughts for the next few minutes. A book that can make me laugh, tear up, and look at life a little differently.
For reference, these are some books I've read and feel like hit this category:
- A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
- Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman
- Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
- When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
- Rise and Shine, Benedict Stone by Phaedra Patrick
- How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu
- Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin
- Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen
- On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
I will not read books containing any form of sexual assault/harassment or prominent racism!
Fingers crossed for some good recs!
