So I am looking for a book where a character has a really intense consuming yearning for another person. It can be romantic yearning or platonic, it can be borderline obsessive or not. If anyone knows what “limerance” is, it can be along those lines. The feelings can be unrequited or not, but just kind of an all consuming intensity.
I am not looking for anything like Nicholas Sparks or a regency romance type book. Just for clarification.
I’m not crazy about the more graphic parts of Call Me By Your Name, but some of the internal dialogue from Elio about Oliver are kind of along the lines of what I’d like more of. But again, doesn’t have to be romantic partner per se. Friendship or other types or relationships are fine too

The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith — Classic romance. Therese, the protagonist, briefly meets Carol, a customer at Therese’s department store job, and becomes completely obsessed with her. Described as a book of “sexual obsession.” The movie “Carol” is based on this book. Note that the book is essentially closed door romance, if you don’t want something graphic.
