Hi all, I am dating a man who’s family is from Indonesia, and I would love to learn more about his family’s culture. However, I am struggling to find interesting books (particularly audiobooks) in English about Indonesia and its culture and history. Does anyone have any book ideas? I am looking for any kind of book that doesn’t white-wash Indonesia (I don’t want to read books about a white tourist’s perspective on Bali). It can be fiction or non-fiction, as long as it’s written by someone who is Indonesian. Thank you for your help!

Pramoedya Ananta Toer is one of Indonesia’s greatest writers. *All That Is Gone* is his book of short stories about Indonesian life. His other novels are wonderful as well.
