The r/regretfulparents subreddit really intrigued me on the taboo topic of parents hating their lives and regretting their decision to bring children into the world.
Are there any fiction books touching on this topic heavily?
It’s perhaps an extreme suggestion, but We Need To Talk About Kevin is really about a mother who really isn’t a natural mother at all and doesn’t know how to parent.

One of the main characters in East of Eden did not want to bring children into the world.

hmmm not loathing, so maybe not exactly what you’re looking for, but yuko tsushima’s territory of light explores the ambivalent feelings of a young mother in a way that i found surprisingly honest and realistic, especially for a book written in the 70s since a mother having any feelings other than total and utter devotion and endless patience towards their child is quite the taboo even today!

*We Need to Talk About Kevin* by Lionel Shriver is sort of that, but more complicated.
