Struggling with writing college application essays made me realize that I genuinely need to get myself back together. I've been on my devices so much, consuming so much worthless content every day that life feels like a haze. For context, I used to read a lot of Web Novels/Light Novels, but eventually got tired of the common repetitive tropes often done just to be marketable to brainrotting teens like me.
I'm looking for something fresh. I want to start consuming some quality stuff. Anything fiction would be awesome! If you need a starting point for recommendations, here's some quick info on me:
-My dad recently died, and I've been struggling because I don't feel anything at all… until I do, and the world crashes down on me for a few hours. Also it's been kinda hard just trynna be present there for my mom trynna act tough and all that
-I recently broke up with a girl, and i could give so many excuses as to why. but honestly, i do not understand my own feelings at all. Why did i do that? I knew it felt off, but that's it.
-I loooove Hozier's music (if that helps).
-I have a copy of A Tale of Two Cities rn but i genuinely dont feel like reading it (the synopsis didnt feel compelling enough to me sorry)
Suggest anything that'll bring positive growth to who I am! I feel like I've been far too stagnant in the past year. I wanna start to understand myself more and be more in touch with my emotions. I rlly struggle with crying and feeling n stuff. Any recs would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Sally Rooney’s conversations with friends and normal people
What are some books you liked in the past or TV shows you enjoy? What genre are you looking for?
I’m sorry for your loss. And you being there for your mom probably means even more to her than she is letting you know.
At your age and in your situation, Sally Rooney’s ‘Normal People’ could be a good one if you haven’t read it already.
A couple of other recent strong pieces of fiction that are very readable and also thought provoking are Jonathan Escoffery’s ‘If I Survive You’ and Susanna Clarke’s ‘Piranesi’.
