Hello all! I’ve been in a sort of slump lately finding it hard to focus or stay with it and not knowing what I want to read. But thankfully I was looking through a list of sub genres and came across witches, I knew that’s exactly what I need. I love all things witchy and don’t know how I didn’t think of it before. When I was looking for something I found it’s a lot of mixed genre with higher fantasy or particularly more romance mixed in with it which isn’t really what I was thinking.
I was thinking witches and magic in our world, not in a fantasy world. I don’t mind if there’s a good romance in it but I don’t want it to be a romance with witches and it has to be adult I really can’t get into YA.
Doesn’t have to be but I like some creepy elements to sometimes
So what are some of the best witchy fiction books like this?

Equal Rites, Wyrd Sisters, and the other Witches books by Terry Pratchett
Kim Harrison’s Hollows series (starts with {{Dead Witch Walking}}) is set outside of Cincinnati. Rachel Morgan is a bounty hunter witch (so urban fantasy) who’s got a familiar and is friends with a vampire.
Alice Hoffman’s series containing Practical Magic ✨
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. There are children involved, but it’s not YA.
Weyward 🙂
Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman – I just finished it and LOVED it!
Winter Night trilogy by Katherine Arden set in medieval Russia and good for cozy winter reading.
A Discovery of Witches. By Deborah Harkness.
It is book one of a series of five ( although 4 & 5 go in different directions a bit, series was originally three books). It’s witches and vampires in today’s world. Great reads.
Choclat by Joanne Harris
Try _The Revels_ by Stacey Thomas.
I’m definitely interested in this thread!
ANNE RICE – THE WITCHING HOUR SERIES.
From what you described I’m fairly certain Hag by Kathleen Kaufman is exactly what you’re looking for. It listed as horror, but I don’t see it that way. At least not what “horror” normally evokes in people’s minds.
Weyward (but check triggers it has some dark elements) – Rewitched has magical realism but the writing/dialogue was cringy in some parts – The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is sooo cute with a big found family theme!
{{Red Rabbit by Alex Grecian}}
{{Hex by Thomas Olde Hauvelt}}
{{Slewfoot by Brom}}
