Just finished Shogun and, while I loved the setting and historical aspect, my favorite part was the strategy the characters used against each other — always trying to anticipate the others’ moves and think of ways to out smart them. Are there other books with similar themes? Especially curious of books set in modern times.

You’d probably like George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. It’s got a lot of that same political strategizing.
The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson would be another solid choice.
