I have been wanting to read Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout for a while now, and only recently (as in like, today) have I found out majority of their books include spice, and I don't like spice!
For me, fantasy shouldn't involve spice at all, especially if the spice is the main point of the story. Fantasy should be about rich world-building, magic, quests, adventures, friendships, discovering oneself, but not spice! There should be no room for spice in fantasy whatsoever, at least in my opinion!
I am willing to give romantasy books that focus more on emotional depth as well as world-building a chance, so long as it doesn't involve spice (fade to black is okay).
