Book suggestion please!!

Hii!! I need a coming of age book. I would like something that makes you feel bad for all the characters. But also something that the characters are good people doing bad things. My favorite book is That was Then this is now. So anything like that. Also maybe something realistic, not sci-fi or anything like that. Thank you so much!!
